Cupid Missed is advertised as a story of a break-up told from the male perspective. The claim is that he didn't see it coming. Actually, though, he did see it coming - but that doesn't keep him from falling apart. The book opens with Matthew trying to get anxiety medication from his doctor. It's post-break-up and he's a mess. The voice here is the best part of the story.
It's brutally honest and he speaks directly to the reader.
You're immediately on his side and feeling for him even with his sometimes irrational behavior. He pretty much cyber stalks the new boyfriend. You find yourself shaking your head at many of the things he does, but at the same time, you understand. The first half is fast-paced and hilarious- in a dark humor kind of way. The second half is a bit slower. He goes traveling through Europe to clear his head and the focus is much more on traveling and almost re as a guide-book, reviews of airlines, restaurants, books and bands included.
This does mimic a shift in the narrator's mind.
The final chapter written one year later seems to provide the kind of distance required for Matthew to make those important discoveries that can only come with time. Anyone who has gone through a difficult break-up can relate to this journey. One person found this helpful. Most of us endure crushing heartbreak and the struggle to rebound at least once in our lives.
Most of the time, this struggle appears in literature from the female perspective, our gender being the one most commonly encouraged to voice and communicate our feelings. In "Cupid Missed", Patrick Blackburn shows us heartbreak from the male perspective, and convincingly illustrates for his readers that the slow and painful process we all must suffer in these situations is necessary to heal.
I loved the interchange between past and present. Unlike some other books I've read, it was seamless and facilitated the telling of the story. There were parts that literally made me laugh out loud, and some very emotional passages where you feel all that Matthew is feeling. It was a wonderful book dealing with a universally human predicament, and the message is that we don't emerge unscathed - just different than we once were.
Having been married for 23 years, it has been quite a while since I felt the pain of a break up. Patrick Blackburn captures the pain, humor and anguish men and women? I love the mix of sarcasim, psychcological analysis, and true feelings. This book proves that we can triumph over pain and things will return to "normal" at some point in our lives. Well done and I am looking forward to more work from Patrick Blackburn. Very fun book to read, surprisingly raunchy to the point every so often you need to put it down and can and go, oh my gosh.
Blackburn didn't nice job of entertaining wild story interesting. Cupid Missed is the type of book that keeps you from becoming jaded about love and relationships. It gives you hope that there are decent men out there.
While it re like a fiction novel, it also serves as a self-help book. The cupid missed hasn't had their heart broken? And how many of us took the time to go through the ugly and exhausting process of getting over someone? Cupid Missed provides cheap and effective therapy to any one that is has gone through a break up, needs closure from a break up, needs a good laugh, needs a good cry, or needs to be reminded that is better to have loved Getting over a break-up, we've all been there and know it can be ugly; but this gem of a book from a man's perspective takes you on an interesting journey through his hell.
The author seamlessly intertwines the story as told between present day and a historical perceptive of time gradually moving forward so that by the time you reach the end of the book, you have come full circle to the whole story. It is captivating and draws you completely into the story throughout. The author's keen wit and raw emotion finds you laughing and your heart breaking all at the same time while you root for him to come out on top. The lessons on life will linger with you. Cupid Missed is an amazingly refreshing Love Story. Of course it is not refreshing that an obviously amazing man is crushed by the break up of his true love, but the fact that there is such a man out there for us to read about is refreshing.
I found myself many times relating to the emotions shared by this author. Great story with a powerful ending. A must read! I sat The cupid missed on a Saturday morning to start reading Cupid Missed, 5 hours later I finished it because I could not put it down.
Patrick Blackburn does an amazing job of bouncing back and forth between the events leading up to Matthew's crushing break-up and his wildly entertaining if not reckless journey to recovery. I found it very easy to relate to what he was going through having been through bad breakups myself, and Blackburn's wit had me laughing out loud at several points throughout the book.
I'm sure I will read it again in a few months, I loved it. See all reviews. Your recently viewed items and featured recommendations. View or edit your browsing history.Power Battle Watch Car S2 EP07 Lost Cupid's Arrow
